I love working in the cannabis industry because from a scientific stand point, we’re literally on the edge of discovery constantly. There is so much still to know about these amazing plants, they just have so much untapped potential and everyday we’re learning something new about them. I’ve always been hungry for the search for knowledge. Every single crop we grow, I become amazed at how even the slightest changes or efforts can really change what we see at the end of its life. With all the different strains and genetics out there, I want to grow them all.
I hope to see more education being put out there. Having consumers understand the complexity of the terpenes, how different cultivation practices really change the product, and discovering that there really is something out there for everyone. Keep breaking out of the chains of stereotypes found in the industry.
My family was huge into growing our own food while I was growing up. My whole childhood was spent in the garden picking green beans and eating raspberries. In my early days I worked at a tree lot and garden center which really opened a world to me of how amazing and adaptable plants can be. From here, I completed a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Calgary where I could really found out the “why” behind what I was seeing. In university, the cannabis industry was known as this untapped gold mine of Plant science that everyone wanted to get into. It was the clear next step for growing adventure.
Arguing with Mar, haha just kidding! There’s a couple of favourites I have but currently we’re putting a hyper focus on science-based trials to push our plants to their maximum potential. The organizing, creation, and data analysis of these experiments, opens my eyes to new trends all the time, makes those parts of my day very interesting. Another favourite is walking through our rooms, spending time reading the plants and understanding where we may need to adjust. Plants have this amazing ability to tell you exactly what they need.
